Paris, France – April 26, 2025 — In a moving and joyful ceremony, Michael Kinaka, a proud son of Kenya, was ordained as a deacon this Saturday at Notre-Dame-des-Champs Church in Paris.

The event, celebrated by Archbishop Laurent Ulrich of Paris, marked a significant milestone for Michael and the entire Kenyan community in France. He was among fifteen Jesuits from around the world ordained to the diaconate and priesthood on this special occasion.

The ceremony was graced by the Kenyan diaspora, family members, friends, and officials from the Kenyan Embassy in Paris, who came out in large numbers to show their support. The community’s presence transformed the solemn gathering into a celebration of faith, unity, and national pride.

Michael Kinaka’s journey to the diaconate has been one of dedication and service. Before joining the Jesuits in 2015, he worked as a teacher in biology and chemistry, inspired by a calling to deepen his commitment to faith and education. His theological studies at the Facultés Loyola Paris have prepared him for this next chapter of service to God and humanity.

The ordination Mass, streamed live on YouTube, allowed family, friends, and supporters around the globe to witness this historic moment.

Michael is now set to continue his mission within the Jesuit community, carrying with him the prayers, blessings, and hopes of Kenyans both in France and back home.

As one voice from the diaspora put it: “Today, Michael stands not just for himself but for every Kenyan striving to make a difference in the world.”
